Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has been reflecting on the injury he suffered against Burnley at the end of last season.

Winks was enjoying a terrific breakthrough campaign before suffering damaged ankle ligaments at Turf Moor.

The England under-21 international missed out on a FA Cup semi-final as well as the Premier League run in.

Speaking to Tottenham’s official website this week, Winks admitted he feared the worse as soon as he went down.

He said: “As soon as I got the injury I knew it was quite serious. It was just my gut instinct and the pain I was in, it was something I’d never experienced before.

“I was there in the hospital, it was tough but it’s one of those things – I try not to think about that moment because it was a horrible day.

“Obviously the last few weeks of the season I had to miss and we had some big games as well – the FA Cup semi-final, the last game at the Lane, but when I look back on the season as a whole, I’m proud of myself, of what I achieved.”

Winks has been working hard to get fit again and says he is having a mini-pre-season before joining up with his teammates in early July.

With head coach Mauricio Pochettino renowned for his gruelling fitness regime, Winks is making a smart decision looking to hit the ground running, and he has plenty of motivation to make up for lost time and show he can get back to the sensational form he was displaying before his injury.
