Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly joining West Ham United in the race for Barcelona’s Rafinha.
According to a report from Catalan newspaper Sport, Tottenham Hotspur have now joined the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Rafinha this summer.
Spurs have yet to make a move in the transfer market this summer, but manager Mauricio Pochettino appears to be keen on adding a new midfielder – no matter what the future holds for Mousa Dembele.
A host of midfielders have been linked, and now Catalan newspaper Sport report that Tottenham are joining the race for Barcelona’s Rafinha, who is available this summer after Inter Milan declined the €35million (£31million) fee in his loan deal.
The Brazilian playmaker, 25, spent the second half of this past season on loan with Inter, notching two goals and three assists in 17 appearances as he enjoyed an impressive stint in Italy.
Now, Rafinha appears to be primed for the Barcelona exit this summer, and as a left-footed midfielder who can drive through midfield with his dribbling ability, he may well be an ideal successor to Dembele.
Tottenham are now thought to be entering the race, and whilst a deal may be slightly cheaper than the £31million mentioned, there still appears to be a long way to go before Rafinha heads to North London.
The news may come as a massive blow to West Ham United, as Sport reported just days ago that the Hammers are looking to bring the playmaker to East London as Manuel Pellegrini shapes his squad at the London Stadium.
With Tottenham having Champions League football to call on, Rafinha may be more inclined to head to North London, and leave the Hammers heading back to the drawing board in their search of a creative midfielder.
