Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a late move for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke but must do all they can to sign the striker.
HITC Football understands that the 26-year-old is of interest to Ange Postecoglou’s side but that talks are yet to begin.
Spurs are on the cusp of the Champions League places right now and signing Dominic Solanke before the Premier League transfer window closes would immediately strengthen the club’s attacking options.
Time is running out for Tottenham to make their move and considering the one-time England international’s importance to Bournemouth it won’t be a cheap deal.
It is understood that the minimum fee the Cherries would even consider is around £60m but given how much the club earned from the summer sale of Harry Kane, that fee might just be achievable.
Tottenham need to sign Solanke before deadline day
Spurs are in a very strong position in the league right now despite numerous setbacks.
Injuries have played a key part in Postecoglou’s first season in north London, losing plenty of his best players for extended periods of time.
However, he has now been boosted by the return of Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero and James Maddison.
international tournaments have also had an impact with Son Heung-min and Yves Bissouma at the Asian Cup and African Cup of Nations respectively.
Pape Matar Sarr’s Senegal team have now been eliminated and it’ll be interesting to see when he’s ready to return to the starting line-up.
Postecoglou needs as many options as possible heading into the second half of the season.
If Tottenham can go all out and sign Solanke in the final hours of the window, all of a sudden they might even put themselves into title contention.

Spurs already busy in the January window
It’s been a very quiet transfer window in the Premier League although a few deals could end up being done in the final few hours.
However, Tottenham have made two key additions to the squad to help with squad depth.
Postecoglou got rid of a lot of unwanted players in the summer but it left his side slightly short in some areas.
Spurs fans have seen Emerson Royal and Ben Davies team up in central defence and exciting youngster Jamie Donley called upon off the bench.
Radu Dragusin has now joined on a permanent deal from Genoa to ease the burden on Romero and Van de Ven.
Meanwhile, Timo Werner has taken the place of Ivan Perisic in the squad and can be used anywhere across the front line.
However, if Tottenham want to score more goals and ease the burden on Richarlison and Son Heung-min, then they need to sign Solanke this month.
What Solanke would bring to Spurs
Son Heung-min is near the top of the goalscoring charts in the Premier League and is one of the most lethal finishers in the Premier League.
Richarlison has finally found his feet at Spurs after a disappointing first season at the club and has relieved some of the pressure on the South Korean.
However, the idea of Dominic Solanke linking play in the centre-forward role and latching onto James Maddison’s through balls would take Tottenham to the next level.
Son could shift out onto the left with Dejan Kulusevski on the right and they could both support Solanke who is fantastic in the air and with his feet.
It would be a surprise if Richarlison could guide Spurs to the very top, but Solanke certainly has the ability to do so and is only going to get better.
