Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kazaiah Sterling may be a name to remember.
Raheem Sterling may not be the only player bearing his surname representing England’s senior teams in years to come.
Tottenham Hotspur possess in their youth ranks a teenage forward called Kazaiah Sterling, who made his own impact on the international stage this weekend.
The 16-year-old striker scored England’s only goal in the Three Lions’ under-17 draw with Portugal at the Algarve Tournament.
The youngster has been part of Tottenham’s under-18 side this season, playing a part in their FA Youth Cup run to the quarter-finals, coming on as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Manchester United last week.
After netting in the 1-1 draw with Portugal, he told The FA website: “It was one of the proudest moments of my life so far, and it feels like my hard work was rewarded.
“We’ve got one more match left and I hope I can do enough in that to be called up again.”
England’s first game was a disaster, losing 7-0 to Holland, so this was a much-needed improvement, with Germany up next. The tournament is an exhibition tournament before the European Championship qualifiers begin at the under-17 age group later this season.
Sterling made his under-18 debut for Tottenham in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last October and has been involved at the level since.
He travelled with the young squad to Malaysia last month for a mid-season tour, and scored against FC Porto’s youngsters.
A first team role not on the radar at present, but as England’s leading forward in his age group, he is clearly a player to keep an eye on as another potential jewel in Tottenham’s youth system.
