Tottenham Hotspur have been the busiest Premier League team in the January transfer window and they look set to do another team very shortly.

HITC Football sources have confirmed that Brentford have reached an agreement with Tottenham over the loan signing of Spanish full-back Sergio Reguilon.

The £32m defender spent the first half of the season on loan at top-flight rivals Manchester United.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side activated a break clause in the deal at the start of the month and he’s now looking for regular minutes elsewhere.

Reguilon set for second Premier League loan spell

HITC Football believe that Tottenham have made it clear to Reguilon that he has no future at the club.

There was interest in Spain in the 27-year-old, but Brentford are willing to cover the majority of his wages which has seen their offer accepted.

Brentford do not have the option to buy Reguilon from Tottenham at the end of the season, with Rico Henry set to recover from injury before the start of the next campaign.

Tottenham will be hoping that a move to the Gtech Community Stadium puts Reguilon firmly in the shop window.

If Ange Postecoglou does not need the left-back, they’ll want him off their books as quickly as possible.

It seems very unlikely that Spurs will recoup a fee similar to the one they paid Real Madrid in 2020.

However, it’s another sign that the Postecoglou revolution is moving at a fast pace as they’re willing to let unwanted players go despite the current injury issues the squad is having.

Brentford reach agreement with Tottenham for Reguilon

Reguilon arrived in North London excited to link up with his idol Gareth Bale and slotted straight into Jose Mourinho’s side.

He competed for minutes with Ryan Sessegnon, however, Antonio Conte made it clear that the Spaniard wasn’t in his plans.

Reguilon spent an unsuccessful season away from the club with Atletico Madrid, where injury scuppered his campaign.

He only managed two La Liga starts and Postecoglou decided during pre-season he didn’t need the 27-year-old either.

While there was excitement at Manchester United about his deadline day arrival, four league starts later he finds himself back at Spurs.

He won’t be there for long though and as HITC Football sources reported earlier in the window, Reguilon will be moving on again shortly.

Tottenham will hope Brentford loan is a success for Reguilon

Sergio Reguilon will be arriving at a Brentford team in desperate need of some inspiration as they slide towards a relegation battle.

They will be boosted by Ivan Toney’s return to the team after his ban especially as he now looks set to stay at the club despite interest from elsewhere.

Reguilon should slot straight into the team given Rico Henry has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

The Bees like their full-backs to bomb forward and attack and that’s something Reguilon is capable of doing.

However, he was never going to be capable of inverting in a number ten role in the same way Postecoglou asks Destiny Udogie to do.
