Tottenham have now made contact with Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon as they step up their hunt for a new manager.

The Times believe Spurs have reached out to the 38-year-old to check whether he would be interested in replacing Antonio Conte.

Tottenham are said to be exploring potential backup options to Julian Nagelsmann – the German is believed to be Daniel Levy’s No.1 choice, but it remains to be seen if he will move to the Premier League.

What’s the story?

Well – according to The Times – Amorim is said to be interested in taking over at Tottenham, despite the fact it sounds as if he’s the backup option to Nagelsmann.

It comes after The Athletic claimed that Chelsea held talks with the Portuguese tactician, but were rejected.

Amorim has become an attractive name in the world of football management after guiding Sporting Lisbon to their first league title for 19 years back in the 2020/21 campaign.

He has since continued to coach an exciting 3-4-3 system to dazzle the rest of Europe, including Arsenal, who were knocked out by Sporting Lisbon across two legs in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 this season.

Amorim is arguably one of Europe’s brightest young coaches along with Nagelsmann.

Amorim would be a fine alternative to Nagelsmann for Tottenham

With Nagelsmann seemingly Levy’s No.1 target, some may consider it a failure from Spurs if they ended up with their backup option in Amorim.

However, we would strong disagree with anybody who thinks that.

In truth, it is difficult to separate the pair.

Of course, Nagelsmann is three years younger and has made waves in the UEFA Champions League, guiding RB Leipzig to the Semi-Final in 2019/20, so it is understandable that he receives more attention than Amorim.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese coach is just as talented and tactically aware as the German, so Tottenham fans should be delighted with either of them replacing Conte in north London.
