Tottenham Hotspur’s reported pursuit of Morgan Sanson could attract his interest as he reflects on a season which ended in disappointment.

According to a report in France Football, Spurs are keen to sign Sanson and have been scouting him for months.

After Marseille’s season ended with them falling short of their goals, now is the time for Spurs to swoop.

The top three in France qualify for Champions League places and Marseille finished in fourth place, one place behind third side Lyon and 19 points ahead of fifth.

This was particulary galling for Sanson, who made no secret of his desire for Marseille to land third place.

He told OM.net in March: “We need to keep third place and go as far as possible in the Europa League. Our goals are clear.”

Pressed about his desire to play in the Champions League, he added: “Of course! It’s a dream to hear the famous music at the Vélodrome stadium with the OM jersey on my back, in front of our supporters who are with us and encourage us every game.”

Marseille reached the final of the Europa League before being beaten by Atletico Madrid.

Winning the competition would have put them into the Champions League and made up for their fourth place finish, instead there was double disappointment for Sanson.

Sanson netted 10 goals in all competitions for Marseille last season, plus three assists.

Tottenham, unlike Marseille, do have Champions League football on offer next season. It would be hard for Sanson to turn them down.
