Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing the race for Pedro Porro’s signature amid links to both Tottenham and Chelsea.
The Spanish wing-back is on the radar of both Spurs and the Blues, and according to numerous reports, the Sporting ace is the north London club’s top target this month.
Jacobs has corroborated those reports, claiming that Spurs are ahead of Chelsea in this race, stating that Tottenham have been in direct contacts with Porro and his representatives now, while he remains a player who is only on Chelsea’s radar at this point.
Spurs have had Porro talks
Jacobs shared what he knows about this situation.
“The difficulty for both clubs is that there is a release clause and Sporting are sticking to that, so it’s pay up or shut up effectively,” Jacobs said.
“Sometimes clubs take this stance and soften as the window goes on, if they don’t bend on the number they can bend on the structure. We know for some extent that was Chelsea’s tactic with Enzo Fernandez.
“Porro is definitely a priority name for Tottenham in particular. They would love to sign him, but they are reticent about the release clause.
“From Chelsea’s point of view, they would be more likely to explore the number of €45m, but they wouldn’t want to pay one lump sum. The difference between the two clubs is that Tottenham have actively gone to the player’s side and discussed prospective terms, whereas Chelsea have the player on the radar.”
Could all change
Spurs may be ahead of Chelsea in the race for Porro right now, but that could all change very quickly.
As we have seen in recent months, Chelsea are the kings of the hijack, and it really doesn’t take long for Todd Boehly and his transfer team to get the wheels in motion once they decide on a target.
Spurs may be leading this race right now, but you’d have to be a fool to discount Chelsea at this point.
