Tottenham Hotspur recently contacted the representatives of Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

That is according to a report from 90min.

It claims that Tottenham have asked Brighton about the availability of Evan Ferguson and have also spoken to his people as they look to replace Harry Kane.

However, the same outlet reports that the 18-year-old is set to stay at the Amex Stadium this summer.

Brighton have already sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea so will be reluctant to sell another key player in the same transfer window.

Evan Ferguson could become one of the Premier League’s best strikers

It is no surprise that Tottenham are interested in Ferguson. He showed so much promise last season, scoring six goals in 19 Premier League appearances. It is pretty impressive for a teenager playing in the English top flight.

Standing at around 6 ft 2, the Republic of Ireland international also has the stature of a proper Premier League centre-forward.

All in all, he has a lot of potential, with Micah Richards already describing him as a “superstar”.

Is Ferguson at the level to replace Kane? Probably not. But how many strikers truly are? There are not many.

Still, with the way he is developing, perhaps the Brighton man could become good enough one day to succeed the England captain at Tottenham. Maybe the north London club can see that potential in him.

Understandably, though, it looks like the Seagulls are going to try to hold on to him for at least another season.

It leaves Spurs needing to turn elsewhere, unless they decide not to sign a new striker this summer.

Honestly, it would be madness after losing Kane and all of his goals, but maybe Ange Postecoglou has a lot of faith in Richarlison, who started up front in his side’s 2-2 draw with Brentford last weekend.
