‘Tottenham have backed off’: Journalist says Arsenal deal may be done over the next 10 days

Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing Arsenal and their move for Gabriel Jesus.

The race for Jesus’ signature has been a hotly-contested one this summer with Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham all keen on the Brazilian.

However, for quite some time now, Arsenal have been leading the race, and now, according to Jacobs, they’re getting close to finalising this move.

The reporter says that a deal is now ‘highly likely’ stating that it could be done within the next 10 days.

What’s been said?

Jacobs shared what he knows about Jesus.

“With Jesus, Arsenal remain the front runners and I think that signing remains very likely. Jesus, as I understand from sources close to the player I’d very much sold on the Arteta and Arsenal strategy. By strategy I mean they’ve sold that move to him based on being a focal point in the team,” Jacobs said.

“The terms will probably see him earn around £220,000-a-week. I know some reports say it would be more £270,000-a-week, but I’ve been told that estimation is a little bit high. But as ever there are incentives that allow them to earn more.”

“Talks are advanced and I believe, verbally anyway, Arsenal and Man City have agreed on a fee. Man City essentially want £45m as a base fee, maybe a little extra if you count the add-ons, those that are likely to be guaranteed.”

“City have said, from sources I’ve spoken to that £90m is effectively what they want as a base fee for Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.”

“I don’t think Arsenal have any problem negotiating a fee with Man City and I don’t think they have any problems finalising the bits and bobs with Jesus. Arsenal have no reason to believe that they won’t get the deal done because Chelsea and Tottenham have backed off. I think this deal is highly, highly likely and it will probably be completed over the next 7 to 10 days.”

Arsenal have been chasing Jesus for months, and it seems as though they’ve finally got their man.

This could be a fantastic signing for the Gunners. The north London outfit have needed a prolific number nine for quite some time and Jesus is a proven source of goals at this level.
