Tottenham and Manchester City have both been linked to Ben Chilwell.

Manchester City are determined to sign Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, according to The Telegraph.

Leicester want a defender world record fee for the full-back The Telegraph claim, matching the £75 million spent on Virgil van Dijk.

It is the sort of money only City could and would realistically pay for a left-back.

This is a shame for Tottenham, who The Telegraph reported in September were keeping tabs on Chilwell.

Spurs have a potential ace in the pack to sign Chilwell, in the form of Wales international left-back Ben Davies.

Davies worked under new Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers at Swansea City, establishing himself as a top star and earning a move to Spurs.

A Davies plus cash offer could have been a winning option for Tottenham up against Manchester City in pursuit of Chilwell.

However Leicester’s new valuation kills off Tottenham’s chances, even with Davies knocking a few million off the price.

Tottenham’s record signing is the £42 million spent on Davinson Sanchez in 2017.

Even if Davies saw Leicester’s price dip to a £60 million overall spend, it’s too rich for Tottenham.

Spurs will have to look elsewhere if they wan to upgrade at left-back, or hope Leicester’s valuation drops dramatically.

With City interested, it’s likely to stay high.
