Paul Merson thinks Harry Kane will stay at Tottenham Hotspur rather than head off to Germany with Bayern Munich next summer.

It’s been a while since Kane rumours were sailing but here we are once again.

This time it’s Bayern Munich being heavily linked with a move to try and sign Kane at the end of the season.

Bayern lost Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich over the summer and whilst Sadio Mane came in, he’s not a classic number nine.

Kane is viewed as a player who can replace Lewandowski’s goalscoring exploits in the Bayern side, especially with his contract up in 2024.

Paul Merson thinks Harry Kane will stay at Tottenham

German outlet Kicker report that Kane is Bayern’s top candidate for next summer as they chase a striker signing.

Tottenham will hope that Kane signs a new deal to commit to Spurs and Antonio Conte for the long term, but will still demand huge money next summer if he doesn’t.

It’s unclear whether this move would appeal to Kane but as he approaches his 30’s, few could blame him if he fancied a move to win a few trophies.

The hope is that Kane’s emotional pull to Tottenham – and the quest to overtake Alan Shearer as the Premier League’s top goalscorer – can help keep him in North London.

Pundit Paul Merson has now offered his take, telling Sky Sports that he doesn’t think a move to Bayern will appeal to Kane.

Merson suggested that Kane would only realistically win the Bundesliga, though erroneously claimed that Bayern never won the Champions League with Lewandowski in the team.

That isn’t true given that Bayern won the Champions League in 2020.

Merson then predicted that Kane will stay at Tottenham, believing that he is Spurs ‘through and through’ and will want to cement his legacy as a club legend.

Merson also believes that Tottenham can go deep in the Champions League this season, believing they can really cause problems in knockout football.

“I don’t know if that will rock his boat, the Bayern Munich one. What would you go there for?… to win the Bundesliga?” said Merson. “They won’t win the Champions League. They didn’t win it with Lewandowski.”

“They are a great European team but I just think, at the moment, they might get left behind with your teams like Manchester City, PSG and real Madrid. I’m not sure if they’re real contenders for the Champions League in my opinion.”

“I think Harry has stayed there long enough now, there was an opportunity a while back with the Manchester City one but I think he’s just Tottenham through and through.”

“For me I think he stays at Tottenham, he’s a legend anyway at Tottenham but he can just cement that even more so. Tottenham are a good team, Tottenham are going to be there or there about for the top four, 100% and they’re going to get through their Champions League group.”

“They have a team that could cause problems in the Champions League. They’re very solid at the back and they’ve got two unbelievable players up front in Son and Kane that can hurt you, so they have got a bit of ammunition to go a bit deep in this Champions League,” he added.
