Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is leaving the club on deadline day as he prepares to join Unai Emery’s Villarreal side.
That’s according to a report from talkSPORT, who claim that the deal is now moving closer and closer with Lo Celso heading out of Tottenham.
Lyon made a move of their own to sign Lo Celso, who has played in France before with Paris Saint-Germain.
Lo Celso preferred Spain though and will now leave the club for the rest of the season having fallen out of Antonio Conte’s plans.
When Lo Celso was completely left out against Chelsea last weekend, the writing appeared to be on the wall for the Argentinian.
It’s not a huge surprise to see Lo Celso head back to Spain. Lo Celso spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Real Betis, smashing 16 goals in 45 games.
That form prompted Tottenham’s interest, eventually paying £42million to sign Lo Celso; £15million for a loan and £27million to make the deal permanent.
Despite showing promising signs at times, Lo Celso just hasn’t been able to nail down a regular spot in the Tottenham side.

With Conte unconvinced, Lo Celso will head out of Tottenham and free up room for Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur to join on deadline day.
This is a disappointing end to life at Tottenham for Lo Celso, who was supposed to become a star when Mauricio Pochettino signed him.
Joining Villarreal means reuniting with fellow Argentine and former Tottenham teammate Juan Foyth.
Foyth has spoken highly of Lo Celso before and even shared that Eric Dier thought the midfielder should be playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona.
To now be on the Tottenham scrapheap sums up how Lo Celso’s time at Tottenham has gone wrong, and this loan return to Spain becoming permanent in the summer wouldn’t be a huge surprise.
