Sky Sports now report that Tottenham are considering making a move to sign Monaco winger Gelson Martins.

Tottenham have discussed Martins in a transfer meeting today with Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici looking at potential signings.

The 27-year-old has blistering pace and can play on either flank, so Tottenham are exploring a potential last-gasp deal.

Martins is understood to be keen on a move to the Premier League and who can blame him after missing out on a 2017 move to Liverpool.

BBC Sport reported that Liverpool were in talks to sign Martins from Sporting after having a bid for Mohamed Salah rejected.

Liverpool seemingly viewed Martins as the ideal alternative to Salah having failed with a first offer for the Egyptian, who was then with Roma.

Liverpool ended up moving away from Martins and signing Salah after all, and he has become a Liverpool and Premier League legend during his time at Anfield.

That’s just one of those sliding doors moments, as Martins has ended up in Ligue 1 with Monaco following 2019 move from Atletico Madrid.

Martins has hit 15 goals in 94 games for Monaco, showing that he doesn’t quite have that goalscoring touch of Salah.

Yet Martins can provide something completely different to Tottenham, bringing real pace and dribbling ability, something that could be ideal off the bench as cover for Son Heung-min or Dejan Kulusevski.
