According to bookmakers Ladbrokes, Tottenham Hotspur are 6/1 fourth favourites to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette this summer with Arsenal the 3/1 favourites to seal a deal.

But given Tottenham’s overreliance on Harry Kane, their desire to kick on next season and the possibility of getting one over their fierce North London rivals, should Spurs chairman Daniel Levy go all out to sign the French international?

After all, the 25-year-old has continued his fine form this season, scoring 26 goals in just 30 appearances and making it 118 career strikes for the Ligue 1 side.

With the player’s contract coming to an end in 2019 and the feeling he is set for a new challenge this summer, a move to the Premier League could be perfect for him.

He would slot seamlessly into Arsenal’s starting line-up, offering them even more goal threat and enabling Alexis Sanchez to operate out wide once more, but Tottenham could and should steal a march on the Gunners.

Kane continues to shine but Vincent Janssen has proved to be a dud and it would be a surprise if he remained at White Hart Lane next season.

Whether or not the Dutchman remains, Tottenham need more effective strikers and Lacazette is the real deal.

Spurs may be fourth favourites for now, but a big-money move from Levy and a little sweet talking could see them get their man.
