Marcelino may not have been a name that Tottenham Hotspur fans were desperate for this summer.
Jose Mourinho lost his job as Spurs boss on Monday morning, and fans are now hoping for a more attack-minded manager to come in.
Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter, Erik ten Hag… those are the names touted; progressive managers who can get the most out of technically-gifted players.
However, The Athletic claim that Tottenham and Daniel Levy have engineered contact with Athletic Bilbao boss Marcelino.
It’s suggested that contact has been made with Marcelino’s representatives, with informal talks seemingly underway for the Spaniard.
Marcelino only become Athletic boss in January, but his previous work at Villarreal and Valencia has put him on Tottenham’s radar.

Some fans are concerned though, believing that Marcelino is a ‘negative’ manager and there would be no point in hiring him if Spurs want a change from Mourinho.
Others pointed out that Marcelino managed to lose two cup finals in quick succession at Athletic, joking that he is ‘very Spursy’ and would fit in well with that kind of record.
