Speaking on the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel, Paul Scholes has been speaking about Manchester United’s manager situation and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte.
Conte had been strongly linked with the Manchester United job earlier this season, but after the Red Devils persevered with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Spurs took the opportunity to appoint the Italian after sacking Nuno Espirito Santo.
It wasn’t long before United parted ways with Solskjaer, but unfortunately for the Old Trafford outfit, Conte was off the market and United instead appointed Ralf Rangnick as their interim boss.
The Red Devils will be appointing a permanent manager at the end of the season, and while Conte has only just joined Spurs, Scholes believes United could tempt him to jump ship already.
What’s Scholes said about Conte?
Scholes gave Conte a glowing review before stating that he thinks United could tempt him.
“Then you think of Antonio Conte. The timing looked ideal, some say he’s not suited to Man United, but you see what he’s done at Tottenham with the squad that is nowhere near as good as United’s squad. They will probably challenge for top four and I think United missed a trick with him,” Scholes said.
The former midfielder spoke about Conte again later in the video.
“Conte at Tottenham and Pochettino, those are the managers we want. Conte, he’s up there with Guardiola, he’s up there with Tuchel and he’s up there with Klopp. I still think United could get him from Tottenham. Tottenham fans won’t like me for saying that, but you can see that he’s already getting frustrated with his squad of players, he’s asking for other things. I think he could do something special here Conte.”

Could they get him?
Could Manchester United appoint Antonio Conte?
Well, it’s tough to say. Conte has only just arrived at Spurs, but as Scholes said, you can already see small cracks forming – Conte notably said that Tottenham weren’t ready to challenge after Chelsea beat them in the Carabao Cup.
However, the Italian probably wouldn’t have taken the job in north London if he didn’t have assurances about the project, and he does have a great relationship with Fabio Paratici that stems back to their time at Juventus.
Could United get Conte? Well, it probably depends on how the rest of the season goes and how much Spurs’ board are willing to back the gaffer this month and in summer.
