Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Dean Jones has shared what he knows about Tottenham Hotspur and their pursuit of a new centre-half.

Coming into this window, it was reported that Spurs were desperate for a new centre-back, with Duncan Castles even claiming that the London club wanted two centre-backs through the door this month.

However, as January has dragged on, Spurs aren’t making much progress on this front, and now, Jones is led to believe that Antonio Conte’s side are willing to wait until the summer to sign a centre-half.

What’s been said?

Jones shared what he knows about this situation.

“In terms of a centre-back, it’s not looking likely. What I was told just before the weekend was that Tottenham because they can’t narrow-in on who they would want right now, it’s not that much of a priority that they want to panic. It is expected that they will put that off until the summer now. I suspect some Tottenham fans will probably be annoyed about that, but it’s probably sensible if they can’t get the right fit,” Jones said.

Worth waiting

If Tottenham can’t find a suitable target right now, then they’re probably best off waiting until the summer.

They’re not in a title race right now, and their current crop of defenders have done enough to have the club within touching distance of a place in the top four.

Could Spurs be better defensively? Of course, they could, but if they were to make a panic signing at centre-back this month, they could easily find themselves in the exact same position in 12 months’ time.
