Tottenham fans will be encouraged by a rumour now coming from Manchester United regarding Harry Kane.

As detailed by Sky Sports and many other respected outlets, the England international is a target for Erik ten Hag this summer as he aims to bring a top striker to Old Trafford.

However, it is starting to look as if Harry Kane may not be the solution to the Dutchman’s problem.

What’s the story?

Well – according to the Mirror – there is a growing feeling that Kane will now stay at Spurs with Manchester United fearful about missing out on the Tottenham No.10 this summer.

The 29-year-old’s contract expires in June 2024.

Therefore, Tottenham run the risk of losing their talisman for nothing at the end of next season, although the Mirror believe the north Londoners are still optimistic about tying him down due to his loyalty towards Spurs.

Kane memorably attempted to leave N17 for Manchester City in 2021 after handing in a transfer request, and his future has been in doubt ever since.

Now – however – it seems Tottenham may get at least one more season out of their record goalscorer, with Manchester United expressing interest in an alternative option in Victor Osimhen.

Tottenham cannot rest on Kane situation despite Manchester United doubts

While it is a positive for Spurs that Manchester United are losing hope in their pursuit of Kane, it doesn’t solve the situation on a long-term basis for Tottenham.

England’s all-time record goalscorer, who Jamie Redknapp thinks Chelsea would target if they hire Mauricio Pochettino, has helped paper over many cracks at Tottenham for years now thanks to his phenomenal goalscoring return.

However, Daniel Levy cannot expect Kane to cover his back forever, and a long-term succession plan for life after the prolific striker must be drawn up by those in the boardroom.

If Tottenham wait until Kane actually leaves to begin planning, they risk falling far behind those on the rise in the Premier League, such as Aston Villa, Brighton and Newcastle.
