Spurs are reportedly looking to sign a new striker, and Selke has been linked.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Hertha Berlin striker Davie Selke this month with Mauricio Pochettino said to be ‘very fond’ of the target man – but Spurs fans do not share their manager’s enthusiasm.
German outlet Fussball Transfers claim Spurs are interested in signing 23-year-old Selke, but face competition from Southampton with Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl working with the forward at RB Leipzig.
The report states that Selke would be ‘ready to talk’ if Spurs submitted an offer for the Germany Under-21 international, who has struggled this season in front of goal.
Indeed, Selke has made 15 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, but has scored just one goal. SportBild claimed last season that the striker has an £18million release clause in his contract.
Tottenham are likely to be on the look out for a new striker, with the futures of Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente in doubt. The latter’s contract expires in June, while Janssen has not been included in the club’s 25-man squad.
But Spurs fans are unimpressed with the links to Selke, with the belief that their club can do a lot better than a player that has managed only one goal this season. Selke did score 14 in 31 games last term.
