The French international elbowed Harry Arter as the two scuffled prior to a throw-in, an incident that was missed by referee Craig Pawson but something the FA have deemed serious enough to look at retrospectively.

As a result, Sissoko has been charged with violent conduct and handed a three match ban, hardly ideal given Tottenham’s hectic upcoming schedule.
The 27-year-old will miss Tuesday evening’s EFL Cup tie at Liverpool as well as the league games that follow against Leicester and Arsenal. As the suspension only applies to domestic fixtures, Sissoko will be available to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League at Wembley in early November.
