The 3-0 loss edges the Spurs U23s closer to relegation from the first division of Premier League 2.

The teams take to the pitch prior to the Premier League 2 match between Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers at The Lamex Stadium on April 08, 2019 in Stevenage, England.

While Tottenham Hotspur’s senior team is in the upper echelons of the Premier League table and seeking a place in the Champions League semi-finals, the Under-23s team has not been having such luck this season.

Indeed, Wayne Burnett’s charges are in danger of relegation from the Premier League 2’s first division, having slipped to second from bottom following Monday night’s 3-0 home hammering at the hands of Blackburn Rovers, as reported by the official Spurs website.

The Lancastrians were two up in the opening 15 minutes at Stevenage thanks to a free header from Jack Vale and a penalty converted by Daniel Butterworth after Harvey White was adjudged to have tripped the Rovers man in the box.

Joseph Rankin-Costello then rifled home a free kick in the second half and Spurs had no reply as Blackburn leapfrogged West Ham into ninth place in the 12-team table, While Tottenham are now above only Swansea City, who they face in a week’s time.

Such a defeat and subsequent ramifications in terms of Tottenham’s place in the top flight of reserve football has prompted concern amongst some Spurs fans, who made their feelings known on Twitter about the Under-23s struggles:
