The Spurs academy graduate did well in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team last term.

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Oliver Skipp’s comments regarding how he plans to keep developing as a player and give Mauricio Pochettino more food for thought.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been one of the Spurs academy’s standout players in recent years and was thus rewarded with a role in the first team after an impressive pre-season last time out, his end-of-season tally standing at 12 competitive first team appearances.
Skipp was also named on the bench in seven Champions League matches last season and was part of the travelling squad for the final in Madrid, testament to how highly he is rated by the Tottenham coaching setup, but ahead of the 2019-20 season, he outlined his desire to keep doing his all and not let complacency slip in.
“All I can do is try to push on,” the teenager told the official Spurs website. “Okay, I’ve been able to show a bit of what I can do last season but now I start again, make sure I have the same attitude.
“You have to show the same level of desire and not rest on your laurels, keep going and hopefully improve on last season. That’s what I’m looking to do and that’s why this pre-season is massive again for me to hopefully get another chance to impress the manager.”
Here is what some of the Lilywhites faithful said on the social media platform about the youngster, with the general reaction suggesting that he could go on to big things, although he may need to hone his skills on loan – much like Harry Kane did in his formative years:
Spurs will soon be travelling to Asia with games against Juventus and Manchester United before heading to Germany for the Audi Cup where they will face Real Madrid first and then either Bayern Munich or Fenerbahce the day after.
Pochettino’s charges round off their preparations for the new season with a home match against Inter Milan in early August, and will get their Premier League campaign under way against Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
