Tottenham Hotspur fans react as Jan Vertonghen posts Twitter update on his condition after Ajax game

The Spurs defender was injured in Tottenham’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Ajax.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has posted a Twitter message in which he informed fans of his condition following his head injury against Ajax on Tuesday night.

The Belgium centre-back collided with Spurs teammate Toby Alderweireld and Ajax’s Andre Onana during the Champions League semi-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Arena.

Vertonghen was treated for five minutes on the pitch, was initially given the all-clear and attempted to play on but was eventually helped off by medical staff after appearing unwell.

On Wednesday afternoon, Tottenham issued a statement on their website in which he was assessed on the day, that “tests today have been clear” and that testing will continue for the next few days.

Spurs also said they would be seeking independent advice and that Vertonghen – who reported no ill-effects on Wednesday – is due to see a neurologist, who specialises in elite athletes, on Thursday.
