The Spurs star, who returned to Premier League action last weekend, admits the last few months have been the toughest of his career.

Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Eric Dier has given a heartfelt interview to the official Spurs website in which he admitted the last four months have been the most difficult of his career.
In the last 26 matches between 15 December and last Saturday’s Premier League trip to Manchester City, the 25-year-old had made just six appearances, of which three were starts, due to illness and injury issues.
Dier suffered a bout of appendicitis in December, while the following month he had tonsillitis, and when he made his return to action in March, he then suffered a hip injury on England duty after just two appearances following his return from illness.
On Saturday, the Three Lions ace played 60 minutes as Spurs were narrowly beaten by the team they had knocked out of the Champions League just a few days earlier, and he was delighted with being of service again to Mauricio Pochettino and his teammates.
“It’s been the most difficult four months of my career and that says a lot about how lucky I’ve been up to this point to stay away from injuries and illnesses,” said Dier. “I think overall I’ve been very lucky and that’s the way I look at it.
“It’s been a very difficult period but at the same time a period where I’ve been able to learn a lot of things, re-assess a lot of things, learn about myself and that’s what I’ve tried to do. Touch wood, I can kick on now and help the team.”

A number of Spurs fans took to Twitter in wake of Dier’s comments and gave their wholehearted support to the combative player, with some of the reaction included here:
