Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen helped Denmark come back from three goals down to salvage a 3-3 draw in Switzerland in Tuesday night’s Euro 2020 qualifier in Basel.
Remo Freuler broke the deadlock for the Swiss in the 19th minute, while goals from Granit Xhaka and Breel Embolo in the second half established what appeared to be an insurmountable lead.
However, surmount that disadvantage is just what Denmark managed to do in the latter stages of the game, with Mathias Jorgensen making the most of a napping Switzerland defence in the 84th minute.
Christian Gytkjaer then took advantage of yet more slack defending from the hosts, sweeping a second into an empty net on 88 minutes, and all of a sudden things got very tense indeed for the home side and their fans.
Deep into stoppage time, Brentford’s Henrik Dalsgaard took advantage of the panic within the Swiss ranks to leap above Yann Sommer and nod in an equaliser to salvage an unlikely point.
Eriksen played the full 90 minutes for Denmark and the Tottenham website proudly posted about his role in the comeback on their Twitter feed:
