The Tottenham playmaker has left some fans unhappy after admitting he’s open to leaving Spurs this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen scored his 27th international goal in Denmark’s 5-1 thrashing of Georgia in Monday night’s Euro 2020 qualifier at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium.
After Kasper Dolberg netted a 13th-minute opener, Georgia levelled 12 minutes later through Saba Lobzhanidze, but Spurs ace Eriksen restored the advantage on the half hour mark from the penalty spot.
The second half saw the hosts dominate proceedings as Dolberg added a second followed by goals from Yussef Poulsen and Martin Braithwaite to register the first win of their qualifying campaign.
Tottenham praised their player on Twitter by posting a message mentioning his goal for Denmark, adding an applause emoji at the end:
At present, the 27-year-old is dividing opinion within the Spurs fanbase after admitting to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet that he’s open to a move away from North London, saying he “might want to try something new”.
As a result, Tottenham’s tweet about Eriksen saw a mixed response:
Since joining Spurs from Ajax in the summer of 2013, Eriksen has made 277 club appearances, scoring 66 goals and registering 86 assists, according to Transfermarkt.
He is contracted to Tottenham until next summer and has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan (Gazzetta dello Sport).
