It’s almost hard to imagine Tottenham Hotspur without Hugo Lloris at this point, but some Spurs fans weren’t too keen two years ago.
The 33-year-old joined Spurs from Lyon in the summer of 2012, marking a huge coup for Tottenham having starred in France.
More than eight years on, Lloris now has nearly 350 appearances for Tottenham, whilst he has won the World Cup with France in a strong career.
Lloris has had his ups and downs though, and Spurs fans were a little fed up of him on this day two years ago.
Spurs had beaten Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park on November 10th 2018, with Lloris enduring a difficult night despite the victory.
Some were ‘sick of’ him and felt he was ‘done’, suggesting that it was time he was moved on and even replaced by Paulo Gazzaniga.
You could hardly even imagine that happening now; Gazzaniga is third-choice stopper at Spurs, whilst Lloris is Jose Mourinho’s undoubted number one stopper.
Lloris was seemingly affected by a terrible mistake in the 2018 World Cup final, and took some time to get himself back to top form again.
Now though, Lloris is pretty much back to his best. He wasn’t asked to do a lot against West Brom on Sunday, but made one stunning save to ensure he kept a clean sheet.
This is a case of sticking by a proven player who is going through a rough patch, and Lloris has come back strong, proving just why Mourinho has backed him so strongly as his first-choice stopper.
