The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is not ready for Real Madrid and Spurs hold all the cards, anyway.

According to a recent report from the Mirror, Real Madrid are planning a summer swoop for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli, but let’s face it, the story is pure hokum.

There is already talk of the need for Tottenham to offer Alli a new deal to ward off the interest of the Spanish giants – the same player who signed his last new deal less than four months ago.

That contract ties him to White Hart Lane until 2022 and pays him in the region of £50,000 a week (as reported by the Telegraph).

Tottenham's Dele Alli

Okay so it is not the mega money he could be earning at Real, but Tottenham hold all the cards and, in truth, Alli has not yet justified a pay increase to match the superstars of the game.

In time he could get there, yet there is little chance of him reaching his potential while sitting on a substitutes’ bench in Madrid; because that is the other factor worth noting.

As good as Alli is, he is not yet ready to start week in, week out for Real; certainly not with the players they have at their disposal.

With the January transfer window now open, Tottenham fans would have expected a bizarre transfer rumour or two, However this one smacks of agents trying to force a new deal for a player who should be focusing on replicating his best form on the field.

Tottenham's Dele Alli celebrates scoring their third goal

It may also be no coincidence that the story has come out after Alli has scored five goals in his last three Premier League matches; his negotiating power considerably better than it was a few short weeks ago.

Alli is tied to Tottenham and there is no reason for anything to change for now.

A new contract will surely be offered in due course, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not be held to ransom; certainly not when he showed the nous to secure the long-term futures of all his star players in good time.
