Tottenham Hotspur go into the international break off the back of a 1-0 Premier League victory.
Tottenham fans may not have seen their side sign off in much style heading into the international break, but there were a couple of members of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad who impressed in the 1-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday, with Toby Alderweireld undoubtedly one of them.
Spurs struggled to put their clash with the Bluebirds to bed following Eric Dier’s early goal, and the visitors had their chances to pull off a surprise result at Wembley.
But Alderweireld’s display was a key reason why they headed back to Wales off the back of a defeat. The Belgian was excellent in the narrow win, making a couple of remarkable clearances as Cardiff pressed for an equaliser.
The centre-back was unquestionably one of Tottenham’s best performers on a difficult afternoon, and many Spurs fans on social media have argued that he was actually the man of the match.
It is certainly encouraging for many that Alderweireld is back in the fold and starting games after such a disappointing year last season where Pochettino rarely handed the former Southampton loanee a chance following his injury.
And when Alderweireld took to social media to comment on the win, several fans responded by lauding the defender’s display and expressing their hope that his recent run in the team is reason for encouragement in regards to potential a new deal with the club.
