Tottenham Hotspur maintained their flawless start to the new Premier League season on Monday night.
A number of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to respond to Toby Alderweireld after the Belgian sent out a one-word tweet following Spurs’ stunning 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Monday night.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are apparently coming into the Premier League season off the back of a pretty terrible summer with no new signings brought in and plenty of uncertainty lingering over some of their important players.
However, that was not at all evident during their trip to Old Trafford as Harry Kane’s brilliant header and Lucas Moura’s brace helped the visitors maintain their flawless start to the new season.
It is a surprise that Spurs have started so superbly, but it is perhaps a much greater surprise that Alderweireld has proved to be such an important player in the opening stages of the campaign.
No player arguably had a greater question mark hanging over their Spurs future than the Belgian, and as reported by Football London, with no new contract signed at the club, there is still that uncertainty.
Nevertheless, Alderweireld was a colossus against Jose Mourinho’s side, putting in a stunning performance that helped Tottenham keep a clean sheet. And there is no question that his display, and subsequent tweet – which included a photo of the centre-back celebrating one of Spurs’ goals – has left a number of fans desperately hoping that the club are perhaps on the path towards getting an agreement sorted.
Many of the supporters have lauded Alderweireld’s performance, while many others are willing the defender to bring an end to the contract saga by signing a new deal with Spurs.
