The Spurs academy ace is very highly rated at the Tottenham Hotspur Arena and makes Mick McCarthy’s provisional 40-man squad.
A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to congratulate Spurs academy prodigy Troy Parrott on getting his first call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad.
The 17-year-old, who signed his first professional Tottenham deal on his birthday in February, is part of a 40-man provisional squad for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Switzerland on 5 September as well as the international friendly against Bulgaria five days later.
Parrott, who has previously been compared to Tottenham legend Robbie Keane, made several appearances in pre-season for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, including in the International Champions Cup against Juventus, Manchester United and Inter Milan, not to mention hitting the post against Real Madrid in the Audi Cup (Football London).
Tottenham’s social media channel congratulated the youngster on the call-up and some Spurs fans took the time to respond with more goodwill messages:
Parrott is regarded as one of Tottenham’s most highly rated young prospects, scoring an impressive 15 goals in 12 Under-18 matches last term, and is joined in the Irish front-line contingent by Callum Robinson, Scott Hogan, Shane Long, Michael Obafemi, David McGoldrick, James Collins, Aiden O’Brien and Sean Maguire.
