A number of Tottenham fans have been reacting on Twitter after Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld have not travelled with Spurs’ squad for their Champions League group-stage opener.
Spurs kick off their European season with a fairly daunting trip to San Siro to face Inter Milan. Inter may have made a poor start to the new Serie A campaign, but they have a serious amount of quality in their squad.
Tottenham do, too. But Pochettino’s men have travelled to Italy without several of their key players. Sky Sports reports that Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris are still injured after missing Saturday’s defeat to Liverpool, and now Pochettino has suggested that two more stars will not be involved.
As reported by Sky Sports, Pochettino has suggested that Alderweireld and Trippier have not travelled for technical reasons. And the lack of clarity regarding their absences has prompted plenty of discussion on social media.
Trippier endured a tough afternoon at Wembley at the weekend, but it is still a surprise that he will not be involved if he is not injured as he is undoubtedly Tottenham’s best right-back.
Meanwhile, after months of speculation regarding his future, the news that Alderweireld will not play in Milan has left several fans concerned – and Pochettino’s vague explanation has probably not helped alleviate any worries.
