The World Cup is now just days away, and there is a reasonable sense of optimism surrounding England’s chances after friendly wins over Nigeria and Costa Rica.

Two comfortable home wins have left England fans eagerly anticipating next Monday’s opener against Tunisia, even if the Three Lions aren’t one of the favourites for the tournament just yet.

Brazil, France, Germany, Spain and Argentina are among the nations still favoured over England, but fans have every reason to be encouraged thanks to a group of young players meshing well under Gareth Southgate.

Much will be expected of Tottenham duo Dele Alli and Harry Kane, as well as the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, but one former England ace is concerned about the Spurs players involved.

Former Arsenal and England defender Tony Adams has offered concerns to The Sun, suggesting that the Spurs players in the squad – Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier, Eric Dier, Alli and Kane – have shown that they don’t have a winning mentality.

“I’m really worried about these Tottenham players, I don’t think they know how to win,” said Adams. “They’re very good players but at certain points in seasons and tournaments, you have to step up — there’s a psyche players must have,” he added.

It’s worth noting a number of things; Tottenham’s players won big games against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus this past season, finished third in the Premier League, including ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Adams also didn’t win anything as a player with England, and Tottenham fans were quick to pounce on his comments, taking to Twitter to blast the former Gunners captain.

Some pointed out that Adams had won the same amount of trophies as Dele Alli has at the same age, whilst also claiming he is ‘talking garbage’ and that his comments are ‘pathetic’, summing up why he hasn’t succeeded as a manager.
