Tottenham Hotspur are in dire straits right now, and Mauricio Pochettino may well be hoping for some January changes to help his side.

Spurs lost 3-0 at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, just days after a 7-2 defeat at home to Bayern Munich, leaving Pochettino under mounting pressure.

His side look short of drive, energy and inspiration right now, and part of the problem is that some players appear to have their minds elsewhere, such as playmaker Christian Eriksen.

The Dane is out of contract at the end of the season, and appears to already be thinking about his next move having given no indication that he’s prepared to stay at Tottenham.

Now, the Daily Star (October 5th, p51) that Spurs have identified their top target to replace Eriksen in 2020, with Leicester City star James Maddison wanted.

Maddison, 22, has impressed since joining Leicester from Norwich City in 2018, racking up more than 100 key passes last season whilst registering two goals in his last two games for the Foxes.

It’s suggested that Spurs are rivalling Manchester United in a £60million battle for Maddison, but it’s somewhat hard to see Leicester selling for that price given how they’re moving forward.

Spurs fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the rumours, with some believing that Maddison isn’t good enough for Spurs, and would be another sign of Tottenham going backwards.

Others think he wouldn’t be interested now having become one of the Premier League’s top playmakers, with some feeling that Spurs missed the boat and should have done a deal before Leicester signed him, but Daniel Levy was to blame for that not happening.
