Spurs reportedly raked in the seven-figure fee last summer.

Fenerbahce presidential candidate Ali Y. Koc was quoted by Turkish media earlier this week as saying that his side paid Tottenham Hotspur a huge £4.4million to sign Vincent Janssen on loan – and Spurs fans have reacted hilariously on Twitter.

FutbolArena quoted Koc as saying that “we need to do better” than paying huge loan fees for the likes of Janssen, who has managed to score only four goals all season.

The 23-year-old has been left on the sidelines for four months between December and April due to a long-standing ankle injury. Though he has returned to fitness, Koc bemoaned the amount the Turkish giants agreed to pay last summer.

Janssen is set to return to north London this summer, with two years still set to run on the four-year deal he signed at Spurs when joining the club from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2016.

However, it remains to be seen what kind of future he has under Mauricio Pochettino, with Spurs already boasting Spanish target man Fernando Llorente as Harry Kane’s back-up.

Spurs fans reacted on Twitter to reports that they had received the seven-figure fee from Fenerbahce for the services of Janssen. Making only 16 appearances, Janssen has cost £275,000 a match.

A handful of Spurs fans Tweeted saying Fener got “Levied”, while one fan was relieved as he joked Spurs would have had to pay the Turkish outfit.
