Another day, another string of centre back rumours for Tottenham Hotspur fans to sift through.
Today, it’s Jules Kounde’s turn to be the main character in Tottenham’s pursuit of a new defender, with rumours swirling over the Frenchman’s future.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Sevilla centre back Kounde, paying £25.5million plus Davinson Sanchez.
Marca now claim that Kounde has rejected the move to Tottenham, leaving Fabio Paratici to go back to the drawing board in search of a new defender.
Tottenham may hope to change Kounde’s mind, but it looks like he has no interest in a move to North London – and that leaves Sanchez in limbo.
Tottenham splashed £42million on Sanchez in 2017, and whilst he has shown glimpses of his quality, he hasn’t really kicked on in the last couple of seasons.
The Colombian’s progress has stalled and Tottenham seem willing to offload him in order to sign a new defender – leaving Spurs fans somewhat split.
Some believe that convincing Sevilla to take Sanchez was ‘daylight robbery’, believing that he had finally proven his worth by being used as a makeweight for Kounde.
Others would be sad to see Sanchez leave, suggesting that Tottenham had wasted the Colombian’s potential.
