Tottenham Hotspur have endured a disappointing start to the season.

Tottenham Hotspur come back from the international break in need of some positive results, with Watford their visitors this weekend.

Spurs went into the break having lost 3-0 at Brighton, failing to really lay a glove on the Seagulls, and were hammered 7-2 by Bayern Munich just days earlier.

Add in the 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle United and the Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier Colchester United, as well as squandering 2-0 leads at Arsenal and Olympiacos, and Tottenham’s first two months of the season have been way below expectations.

Mauricio Pochettino needs to have found some answers over the international break, and a home game against a struggling Watford side seems like a great opportunity to really kickstart the season.

Pochettino’s squad appears to be less than ideal, with some contract rebels still at the club in ex-Ajax trio Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, and some players who may be moving on in the near future in Serge Aurier and Victor Wanyama.

After the defeat to Colchester, Pochettino told The Mirror that he would be able to solve the problems in January, seemingly hinting at some incoming business to bolster his side.

However, Pochettino has dialled back those comments today, telling Football.London that he doesn’t believe Spurs will make changes in January, backing his squad to have the quality for the season.

Spurs fans have been reacting to the comments, suggesting that Pochettino has ‘lost the plot’ as it’s clear Tottenham need reinforcements, with some completely baffled by his statement.

Others think Pochettino knew what he was doing, attempting to instil belief in his players and prevent clubs from hiking up prices by knowing two months in advance that Spurs will spend big, with this comments dividing opinion.
