Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter aren’t crazy about the idea of Kyle Walker-Peters starting this evening’s massive Champions League clash with Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Tottenham are without Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier due to injury, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino confirmed on Monday night that the 21-year-old would deputise.

Walker-Peters has played only 13 minutes of Premier League football this season, after replacing Aurier in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Leicester City.

Tonight is far and away the biggest test of his burgeoning career as a Barcelona side potentially lead by Lionel Messi await, and here’s how Tottenham supporters reacted to Pochettino’s confirmation that he would start.

Lilywhites fans are right to be concerned. After all, it’ll only be Walker-Peters’s third appearance of the season in all competitions, and his first start since the Carabao Cup win over West Ham United in October.

Rustiness might be inevitable and anything less than his A-game could see him ruthlessly exposed. Luis Suarez will play no part, but Messi and Ousmane Dembele might well start and it’s potentially ominous for the Spurs youth graduate.

If Pochettino’s side better Inter Milan’s result at home to PSV Eindhoven then they will progress into the last 16 of the competition, but a point in Catalunya will result in a third-placed finish – and Europa League entry – if Inter win.
