The Independent reported on Wednesday that Tottenham Hotspur were considering a £15 million swoop for Borussia Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter

The Germany international, a World Cup winner in 2014, could join Tottenham for about £15 million according to the English outlet, which claims that Hoffenheim are also keen.

The 23-year-old would beefen up Spurs’ central defensive options, with third-choice centre-half Kevin Wimmer linked with a return to the Bundesliga.

Fans of the Lilywhites seem upbeat about the prospect of signing Ginter and a number of them have expressed their optimism on Twitter since the report broke.

Ginter is a fine talent but he would be joining Spurs in the knowledge that he might not play a great deal in his first season with the Londoners.

Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld were exceptional for Mauricio Pochettino’s side again last term and, barring an injury to one of them, it would be tough for any centre-back in Europe to break up the partnership, let alone Ginter.
