Massimiliano Allegri has stoked the fires ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Tottenham Hotspur by questioning the Lilywhites’ defence.
The Juventus coach was speaking to ESPN after his side needed a last-minute winner from Paulo Dybala to beat Lazio this past weekend.
Tottenham drew 2-2 in Turin during the first leg with the Italian champions, meaning that Allegri’s side must either win the second leg on the night to progress into the quarter-finals, or secure a high-scoring draw to qualify inside the 90 minutes.
Anything less and Mauricio Pochettino’s side will advance and the fact that Juve struggled against Lazio – who sit fourth in Serie A – on Saturday has raised concerns over the Bianconeri’s chances this week.
Allegri told ESPN: “Tottenham are different compared to Lazio, they don’t defend as well. This win certainly helps our confidence as we will have to be good and lucky on Wednesday.”
Lazio have conceded 34 goals in 27 Serie A outings this season, whereas Spurs have shipped 10 less and have played two more games, prompting Tottenham fans to question Allegri’s comments.
