The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back got on the score sheet for his country at the weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur fans are having to make do with watching their players in action for their countries this week, with the Premier League on hiatus for yet another international break.
While those two words often incite dread in domestic football fans, Spurs supporters can at least take pride in seeing one of their own score a fantastic goal for Belgium against Greece on Sunday evening.

Tottenham centre-back Jan Vertonghen is not known for his scoring prowess, but the 30-year-old showed the strikers how it is done with a fine effort to put his team 1-0 up, before a late back-and-forth involving Zeca and Romelu Lukaku saw the match end 2-1 to the visitors.
Tottenham had three players in Belgium’s starting line-up, with Toby Alderweireld partnering Vertonghen at the back and Mousa Dembele playing in midfield.

All three played their part, with the latter providing the assist for the opening goal, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will now be hoping he welcomes all his players back to North London with no additional injury concerns.
Next up for Tottenham is a visit to Goodison Park to take on Everton and both sides will be desperate for the three points on that occasion.
