Erik Lamela has been brilliant this season but some Tottenham Hotspur fans turned on him today.

One might hope that Tottenham Hotspur ace Erik Lamela has the sense to not search his name on Twitter this evening.
If he does, he could be forgiven for thinking it was 2016.
Lamela has long been a divisive member of the Tottenham squad, with one section of the fanbase admiring his relentless work rate and application, while the other wanted a bit more by way of goals and assists from their £30 million investment.
But it’s fair to say that the Argentine star has silenced that latter group this season, scoring a very respectable six goals in eight starts across all competitions for Spurs.
He had worked on his game tremendously, but today was an off day.
Mauricio Pochettino started Lamela in the 1-0 win over Burnley at Wembley, but the former Roma star hardly justified his selection and also missed one glorious chance to break the deadlock.
Here’s how fans of the North London club reacted to his performance:
It’s been an energy-sapping few days on a mental and physical level for Spurs, who completed ‘mission impossible’ in midweek by drawing away to Barcelona to progress into the latter stages of the Champions League.
Today was difficult for Tottenham as a collective unit. They got the win eventually thanks to Christian Eriksen’s late winner, but the Lilywhites – and indeed Lamela – will be stronger next time around.
