Erik Lamela did not impress the Tottenham Hotspur fans on social media.

Plenty of Tottenham fans have been particularly critical of Erik Lamela’s performance during Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s 1-0 win against Newcastle at Wembley on Saturday.
Spurs moved themselves up to second in the Premier League by securing the three points. But the home side were relying on a wicked late strike from Son Heung-min and an error from Martin Dubravka to get the important win.
For much of the game, it appeared that Tottenham were not going to break the deadlock despite their pressure. They had some fantastic chances, and came desperately close at times before Son finally found a way through.
And Lamela was one of those who the supporters felt did not do enough. Whoscored shows that he successfully completed 44 of his 48 passes, while he also made three key passes – which is the same number that Newcastle’s entire team apparently managed.

Nevertheless, his underwhelming second-half performance has left many fans questioning whether the 26-year-old does enough when he does feature. He has not scored since early November, and, barring a header which hit the woodwork, rarely looked like ending that run against Rafa Benitez’s side.
In fact, some have even suggested that he should be sold as he is not producing a good performance often enough. At the very least, several think he should not be a starter for Pochettino’s side.
