Tottenham Hotspur were pushing for a centre back signing in October, but couldn’t land one of their top targets.
Milan Skriniar was a high-profile target from Inter Milan, but no deal was done – and Spurs ended up having to use the domestic market to sign a centre back.
Joe Rodon came in from Swansea City, offering valuable depth in the Spurs defence without breaking the bank.
Now though, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has told The Mirror that he spoke to Jose Mourinho about making a bold move to Tottenham.
Rudiger was out of favour under Frank Lampard, and Mourinho seemingly tried his luck in an effort to pull off a cheeky deal.
Rudiger claims that failing to move made him upset, but it has worked out for him now having carved out a key role under Lampard’s replacement Thomas Tuchel.

Spurs fans have been reacting to Rudiger’s comments, believing that he would have been an ‘amazing’ signing and missing out is a real shame.
Others think that fans won’t admit it, but Rudiger is sadly better than what Spurs have, and it’s now being shown with his importance to Tuchel.
