The Spurs ace will remain on international duty after the Taeguk Warriors beat Bahrain 2-1 in the last 16.
With things going the way they are at Tottenham Hotspur currently in terms of personnel problems, fans would have been forgiven for wanting one of their players currently on international duty to be knocked out of the tournament in order to return to his club and bolster the ranks.
However, Spurs will have to wait a bit longer for Son Heung-min to return to north London after his South Korea side beat Bahrain 2-1 in extra-time to reach the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup.
Substitute Kim Jin-su scored his first international goal towards the end of the first period of extra-time to send the Taeguk Warriors through to the last eight of the competition, which will take place on January 25.
With the Asian Cup semi-finals on January 29 and the final on February 1, Son’s increasingly prolonged absence is coming at the worst possible time for Tottenham, who have lost Harry Kane and Dele Alli to injuries until around March.
Even though the transfer window is open, no players have been signed as of yet, while of course, none were recruited in summer, leaving the present squad becoming increasingly threadbare due to the wear and tear of the season.
