Tottenham have been linked to Saul Niguez.
Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted with a mixture of excitement and scepticism regarding reports they are chasing Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
The Mirror [citing Spanish newspaper AS] report Spurs have offered the Spaniard a five year deal worth in the region of £6 million, which would make him the highest paid player at the club.
Niguez scored a crucial goal for Atletico to help them win a recent Champions League tie against Bayern Munich, and can end the season with the title if they can go on to beat Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old is currently negotiating with Atletico over a new deal, and while it is claimed Spurs have put in their own approach, it would not be a surprise if the Premier League side’s interest is simply being touted around as a bargain chip.
If it were to prove to be accurate, and Spurs went on to pay his release clause, his signing would be a major coup and show the pulling power the North London club possess.
He would immediately compete for a first team spot, and strengthen the team as they prepare for a Champions League challenge of their own next season.
