Tottenham fans on Twitter have provided a mixed reaction to Paul Merson claiming that Mauricio Pochettino could leave the club next summer.

Merson claimed that the ‘spark’ Spurs and Pochettino once had has gone and he doesn’t expect the Argentine to be walking their touchline next season, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Those comments by Merson came before their EFL Cup exit against Colchester United, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he has added more fuel to his comments since.

The Spurs faithful, however, provided a mixed reaction to his comments, with some telling him to ‘shut it’, whilst others were actually agreeing with his prediction.

It has been a pretty tough start to the season for Tottenham in all competitions – from indifferent performances in the Premier League, an opening group game defeat in the Champions League, and now their early exit in the Carabao Cup.

Until then, Spurs will have to knuckle down and Pochettino will have to find a way to steady what is turning out to be an out of control ship.

It starts with their home clash against Southampton at the weekend before they entertain German giants Bayern Munich on home soil next Tuesday night in the Champions League.

Positive outcomes from those fixtures will no doubt easy the pressure on Pochettino, but more defeats will only make pundits like Merson become more critical than they already are.
