Mike Dean was set to be the fourth official for Tottenham Hotspur’s next Premier League game.
Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that BBC Sport have reported that Mike Dean will not act as the fourth official in Spurs’ upcoming Premier League clash.
Dean was involved in a remarkable incident with Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff following Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley at the weekend, with the Spurs boss letting his emotions boil over.
The exact reasons for the incident are not clear, but Tottenham, understandably, felt angry about a decision to award the Clarets a corner during the second-half that led to the opening goal when it appeared to be a clear goal kick for the visitors.
Interestingly, it appeared that Dean and Pochettino’s paths were set to cross immediately, with the former set to act as the fourth official when Spurs face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
However, BBC Sport reports that the body that decides who officiates Premier League games have decided that Dean will be replaced by Andre Marriner for Tottenham’s game, and Dean will instead patrol the touchline for Manchester City’s clash with West Ham.
And unsurprisingly, a large portion of Spurs fans are delighted that Dean will not be involved in their game. They clearly back their manager’s stance and feel that his frustration was justified, and they are now ambitiously hoping that the referee is not involved with any of their games moving forward.
