Tottenham Hotspur youngster Josh Onomah was among the bright talents handed a starting spot against Liverpool last night.

Spurs lost 2-1, with Daniel Sturridge’s brace enough to put Liverpool through to the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

Onomah made his first start for Tottenham last season, and after a lot of hype owing to excellent academy and England youth international performances, struggled to match expectations.

In the last round he scored his first goal for the club in the 5-0 win over Gillingham, but found the step up in quality tough against Liverpool.

Fans were unimpressed with his efforts in the last 16 tie, and felt it was a missed opportunity for the 19-year-old.

Here is a look at how Tottenham fans reacted to his performance…

It was a game last night where Onomah never really seemed with it, missing headers, misplacing passes, and unable to make his mark when in possession.

He will not want his Spurs career to be defined by one game, but he may have to wait a while until the next opportunity comes around.

A spell out on loan may be what he needs to adapt to a more competitive level of football than he is clearly used to, and develop out of the spotlight with a view to returning a better player.
